Electricity amazes me. All that horsepower coming through two little contact points, pantograph/catenary conductor.
There are model railroaders who build these systems from scratch. They operate at 12,000 millivolts. (12 volts)

I used to teach classes on pantograph maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair... as well as the breaker, tap changer, and monitor. It seems like a crude system, but it's not.

And there's always someone who says "The wire isn't straight"... and doesn't understand that it's not supposed to be straight... (sigh) :shrug:
