how can I set the pc back a week or more
Use system restore. Honestly if your not using Windows for a particular program Linux is the way to go. Either setup to run both or wipe the drive and go all the way. I have no heavy iron to speak of so this is my small contribution to the site at this time. If I can help with either let me know.

To find system restore; right click your mouse over the little Windows sign at the lower left of the screen in the task bar. Then, select "system". In the upper left of the popup window you will see "system protection". After clicking that select system restore and follow the dialog in the popup. If you have system restore points there pick one you think might get you to a time where where you want to be.

I prefer to use Ubuntu. It's relatively easy to work with and does offer a fair number of packages to add features.

A good place to read up on various flavors is below...

My system has Win 7, Win 10, Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, and Debian. Each work in their own ways but their core is still Linux so very lite as well as powerful.
