I held off on smalls to save weight on 600 mile ride home. I was 900# under my ratings loaded but there is no way to load a cab and a half with out going over rear axle weight load rating. They are nearly worthless trucks. Should have drove the dually or regular cab.
I had went there to buy an oil field engine but choked on bidding on what I wanted over price. Then I finally figured out the Junk men were buying every thing under 350 so I made sure they not get this one. I wanted it. Regret not buying the greasy one instead. It was cheap enough. Like 1,350 or so. Probubly would have ran.
I bet there are quite a few in Kansas left around. What did they bring there a week ago Sunday ? South of Topeka

I paid 310.00 for the 6 hp Galloway and 1400.00 for The 20 hp Bessemer complete with oilers, mag, governor, and extra parts ( head, cylinder, piston, mags ) and power itself. Paid 500.00 for The Ajax which should run on steel I beams. Family members bought the 118 FM for 350.00. Will post some pictures when we start removing the engine from power house.

I thought about going over there, I was at Booneville show and left Sat. I was planning this Thornhill sale and just did not think I needed both sales. I also knew you would be there Rick so glad you got them bought.

On the way home from this auction, 2:00am while stopped in traffic at a construction zone and hauling 2 Reid engines from the sale, Jonah Close was rear ended by a heavily loaded 18 wheeler. The semi pushed him 60 ft. into another car ahead. All survived without serious known injury. His truck and trailer sustained heavy damage and the 18 wheeler was totaled. It ended up on his trailer on top of the rear Reid's flywheels. Jonah said the trailer tires were absolutely flat from the weight and still holding air. Believe it or not, the Reids sustained very little damage and the flywheels held the weight of the semi without any damage. The semi driver apparently was zoned out and never touched his brakes hitting Jonah at 55+ mph. He was way over his hours without an accurate logbook. He was given various citations.
The outcome of this severe accident speaks well of Jonah's efforts in tying down his load. I have traveled with him to get engines and I can attest to his careful attention to his load. He stated to me " You can't ever have too many tie downs on your load." I am sure thankful he wasn't hurt too badly. For his age, he is a pretty remarkable young man.

Thank you John for the write up, I am still going through the hoops with the insurance companies however everything seems to be slowly moving in the correct direction. No one was hurt and so far nothing has been totaled other than the semi tractor. The 30 horse Reid was on the back and the 25 was on front of the trailer. The 30 sustained some deflection in the crankshaft by measuring the outer edges of the wheels all the way around. Definitely fixable with surprisingly no noticeable cracks. The whole situation was a buzz kill being out of a 400 mile trip I just had 70 miles left!

And the Foos made it to CPM without any problems. Now for restoration!

What did Jonah pay for the 8 cyl Foos?
We got it for 3,500... more than I expected but the junk man was already drooling for it.... definitely worth it though!

Johan

Congrats on the purchases and more importantly on surviving the accident. Thank you for the update on the Foos. My friends in the Central Valley of Calif own a 6 cyl Foos that is very similar to the one CPM just purchased.

No it’s going to need some work... and we didn’t weigh it either. It’s believed to be around 9 ton though...
