EVENT CANCELLATIONS

How do you stay 1m apart in an elevator, bus, train, plane, ferry, any food court in a shopping centre, church on a Sunday or doctor's surgery (now-a-days)? Lucky we only have 2 elevators in town I'd hate to work in the city and walk up 132 flights of stairs instead of using the elevator with 45 other coughing, spluttering, stinky sardines. I wonder if McDonalds will have separation police? Taxi's are buggered...unless a maxi-taxi and your sitting in the left rear corner like your Globite. This is yet another Government policy that hasn't been thought out to any degree. I reckon it's all to try and keep some alarmists (aka voters) happy, or more importantly not making them unhappy. That might mean losing a vote.
How's the NRL going to adopt the metre apart rule? Nobody can watch in the stands but 26 blokes can get all up close and hold each other. Makes sense. Where's the Warriors at the moment? How do they fly in and stay in quarantine for 14 days? What about Warriors home games? So many questions......
QLD local Government elections are this week-end or next (can't remember). Should they be postponed due to possibility of more then 500 people in one spot? If the metre apart recommendation is adhered to, how long will the lines be? At least running the gauntlet outside will be easy. Just sneeze.

Mrs Scotty has to go to the Doctors today in Brisbane to get some test results back. She cannot talk to the GP on the phone because he isn't a specialist. Figure that one out. If he was a specialist, who doesn't see that many people, a yabba on the phone is OK but with a busy GP you have to front up and sit in the waiting room full of sick people so the GP can read some stuff to you from a letter. How would you like to be a health worker now?

I'm just p!ssed because Dalby running engine record attempt will probably be called off. Not happy Jan.

Oi Cobba. Do you reckon there'll be people counting at clearing sales now? Your number 499....that's it folks. No more people. Might be some bargains to be had huh?

Ok so you ridiculed the measures put in place that are trying to slow things down but not stop them. You never offered an alternate action. So lets hear how it should be done Scotty, what measures would you take?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not against restricting people congregating. Make the measures consistent for a start.
Can't have more then 500 people at an outing BUT crowded shopping centres, crowded public transport, schools and, in QLD, polling places are OK. Where would you rather be to not get sick....in a paddock watching some tractors or in an crowded elevator going up into an inner city office block or sitting in an inner city train or bus?
The rules as they stand just don't make sense when the rules are supposed to be there to keep people apart.

Hands up all those who would travel in an inner city elevator in their capital city or sit in a big shopping centre food court all day?

They have to start somewhere and it cant get so complicated the country can't function. And it is only a guideline (nhma territory that is) not strict law.

At the end of the day most of us are and need to get it to stop it but hopefully not all at once! Unless they quickly come up with an effective vaccine.

One thing that had changed for me so far is i used to cough to cover my farts, now i fart to cover my cough.

:rotfl:

I do kind of agree with Scotty there though, it should either be all or nothing. Pointless canning a few events when everyone is still going to work and school as normal. (though I'm not going to get cranky about it and stamp my feet about it) The only benefit I can see really is giving everyone a "dry run" at cancelling stuff, and some community spirit in knowing that some action is being voluntarily taken. But even if we decided "right lets knock it on the head completely and all stay home for three weeks" that's probably no good without putting in extremely strict border controls or closing them entirely, only takes a couple coming from overseas to start it all over again....

You are very concerned about the Warriors footy players, well the poor little dears have set up shop in far north NSW so they play cuddles in scrums and Christmas Holds in tackles.
Water should be on it's way to you John soon enough.I know that water table is overflowing here again already and it is bubbling out of the ground at one of my driveways and right near the back corner of the house.
One of the Macca stores has closed the eat in dining section, take away only. That is where sick people usually go Scotty, to the Drs place which is where I'm off to yet again after he had 2 goes at getting some lump off me face and it doesn't sound good that he is calling me back again and already there is a small lump again after a week n a half.

Another problem to be solved is how do you get essential things like food on your table if you canna go shopping? Already they are making laws to penalise those who are suppose to be self isolating if they are caught out on the streets but how do you monitor that?

I hear you.
I mentioned consistency before. Here's an example. Friday it's a holiday here for the 3 day show. It's been cancelled because of the more then 500 thingo. Fair enough.

On Saturday a great number of those more then 500 people (plus more in reality) who didn't go to the show have to line up and be put into a smaller space for local government elections that will be all over in a number of hours. The answer to stop the spread of any virus......take your own pen. Why not postpone the election as well? Easy enough isn't it? Consistent?

On Thursday more then 500 people will be in class rooms at the 1 local public High School but cannot go to the show on Friday because there will be more then 500 people there.

The local shows are all been cancelled due to the more then 500 thingo but the Carrara Markets on the Gold Coast and the Beenleigh Markets on Brisbane's southside are running as normal. A lot more then 500 people turn up to them when-ever they run. Consistent? What's the difference between some Sunday markets and a swap meet?
https://www.carraramarkets.com.au/market-opening-hours
https://www.beenleighshow.com.au/beenleigh-sunday-markets/

As Darryl mentioned. A metre separation in the class room but packed in like sardines around the lockers. Consistent?

In my opinion there is no point in doing something 1/2 arsed.

We went to the doctors in Brisbane yesterday and they had a huge sign across the front door. Nobody allowed in if they had signs of cough, sniffles or any flu like symptoms. If you did have any symptoms you had to go back to your car and call a phone number and they'll come out to you. That's been pro-active to limit the spread.

The antique tractors & antique cars auction to be held at Mannum (Sth Aust) on 26th March has been closed to the public
However an alternative is being arranged. Similar to a "for sale by tender" process.
- My (poor) explanation/description of this process can be found from what I was able to obtain from the Auctioneer.

They are still sorting out the "nuts & bolts"

Some of us have no choice about riding in lifts (please, Scotty, if you don't mind :p, no more American TV for you🤣), being a lift mechanic and all...
Lots of customers don't want us there, unless there is a breakdown, or critical maintenance. (nursing homes and XXXX come to mind).
I'm waiting on the hospitals to turn us away next....

Jarrod.

This article contains animations that demonstrate how diseases spread and how 'staying at home' can slow the spread. No, staying at home will not stop the spread. As noted in previous posts movement has to happen so we can get food (and toilet paper).

What we need to do is slow the spread of the disease so that medical facilities can keep up and hopefully provide time so an immunization can be developed.

I don't like the my fun events being canceled anymore than the next person. At the same time, I don't want to stand next to someone that came from a disease hot spot. Keep yourself as safe as you can.

Later,
Jerry Christiansen

Hello John
Thanks for all the updates. A suggestion if I may. Have one cancellation per reply as it's a bit hard to see multiples like in the reply above. Some people may have skimmed over the Burns and Co auction. I know I only saw it because I read the whole post.
Cheers then
Scott

The Burns & Co auction (steam memorabilia, etc) 28th-29th March at Bayswater (Vic) is still going "full steam ahead," however limited to no more than 100 people. Auction house states at this point in time, majority of bidders are on line/telephone. Have also extended the inspection times over the coming week to avoid a mass gathering.
