help,1995 Buick

I am stumped,once again.
My dad has a 1995 Buick Roadmaster with the LT1 5.7 engine.About 67,000 miles on it. Nice shape,well maintained other than it sits alot and only gets drove once a month or so and maby a mountain trip once a year.
Car ran great a couple weeks ago when he drove it to a funeral out of town and then when he tried to start it yesterday, it would only turn over and when you let off the key it would chug and the engine would turn backwards a bit and white smoke that smelled of raw fuel would belch out of any crack it could find in the air cleaner assembly.
My first guess is it is timeing related.And probably it needs a can postion sensor or crank sensor. BUT, 1,I can't get either 1 from the local parts house,only connectors. 2, I can't find a location for the crank sensor online,and really aint sure if what I am looking at behind the water pump from the top is the cam sensor.
Basicly,I am asking for help to find the part on the engine,and a source for the part and perhaps a method of testing the part?
Makes me very aggitated that this car is well taken care of,and was running fine a short time ago and now suddenly,nothing but belching.

What you are seeing behind the water pump is the distributor. It has an optic sensor in it for the pick up. Real piece of cake to work on.....NOT. Just take the pump off and you can get right to it. If there is any sign of coolant around the pump, replace it too. Those are a major pain in the behind.

Just a thought but don't forget that this stupid alkygas goes bad quickly and is only good for 1-2 months. If so it can crud up sparkplugs and it won't start. Do the snif test and maybe it's your problem.

How cold was it the day it did not start? You might remember my fun with boom lift engine some years back, tried to start it on a cold day, gum on valve stems made valves stick causing rockers to be spit to side. Trying to start it produced white smoke and made engine roll backwards after start attempts. Just an idea.

Thanks for the help folks,
This is 1 thing I know for sure,it has not had alky gas in it.He only puts the non ethle gas from QT or similar.
I went to Orielys and the lady I like to deal with was at the counter and she looked up the stuff I was curious about and for sure,they can't get either sensor.
But I will get my little camera out and plug it into the computer and stick it up in behind the water pump and see what I can see.If I see antifreeze,then i will have to get to work on that.
No leaking on the concrete but,it don't take much I guess.

Well I would say you are close to being the correct answer.
Although it is not alky gas, it is not fresh gas.
I charged the battery all night and let it sit today till about 4 pm or so.
I went to check for spark and was going to then check behind the water pump with the camera and see if there was any leaking. I pulled a wire off a plug,put it to a new plug with a ground wire on it and had my dad hit the key.Hell,it cranked right uP!:crazy:
I think I know what happened.
Dad filled it up in october for a mountain trip and didn't go. Went to a funeral last month. Filled it back up,about 5 gallons.
The gas,although no alky, is old and gummed up the damn valves.
Once it was flooded and spit gas back thru the intake,that raw fuel broke down the gum and the valves closed.Lettting it run.
I told him to put a double dose of Stabil and some Startron in it and drive the crap out of it until the tank is just about empty,THEN fill it back up.
I hope I am right anyway.
I was not looking forward to working on this thing.

Well when I told my 85 year old dad to add some Startron or Stabil and DRIVE the damn car and get that old gas GONE, the poor car wound up with Statron, Stabil and Injector cleaner! So it is apt to take off to the friggen moon the next time he drives it.
