Just out of interest a few weeks back I modified some felt seal carriers to take standard lip seals. They were for a vintage truck,rear axle I believe.
Hello all
I thought of that and it would be simple to do except for the seal in the front of the pump. But if the felts can be had it would save time and retain originality. Originality isn't so important as no-one would ever see them but the time factor is important. Time is fairly precious for me at the moment. :(

Hello all
Got a price for tyres off Old World Lamps and Tyres and what a nice bloke to speak to and a pretty good website to look through. I looked and I shouldn't have. There's some beautiful cars there for sale. https://www.oldworldlamps.net/
Anyways...a set of 4 500-24 tyres delivered to Warwick comes in at $1,500. He's doing a deal seeing it's a museum getting the old car on the road.
Tomorrow I'll talk to old mate at Bribie and see.

Hello all
I finally got some pictures of how the pump divides the power from the pump to the drive train. Just for you Cobba.
In this picture you'll see the in and out lever on the right hand side. Push the lever back and the selector fork engages the big gear which drives the pump.

All the pictures taken from the input side.





To get the power to the drive train the selector fork goes back which pushes the gear on the shaft into a coupling which drives the diff.
Below is the gear nearly ready to go into the coupling and the coupling itself. The diff goes on the other side of this coupling

They're definitely on the contact lists. I found them looking for the exhaust pipe nut 4 cylinder. I just wished we were there or they were here. Another place I found here in Australia is Ray's Early Dodge Parts.
Finding parts in Australia is a consideration due to exchange rates and, more importantly, shipping costs.

That's why that long lever is there apparently Cobba. Just pull harder until something gives. :rant:

Why can't these bearings be bought from a local bearing supplier? Are they such an odd size?

I don't know. Another 'helper' took the bearings to our local bearing shop and they could get one at a cost of $1,500.
Here are the bearings. Maybe some good hearted people could ask their bearing bloke?
Timken 366 - 363. We need 2.
Timken 422T - 414. We need 2
Timken 43125 - 43312. We need 1
Timken 26126 - 26283. We need 1. This one was quoted at $1,500.
I'm off to my bloke at Surplus Bearings at Springwood in Brisbane early this week. They have been simply brilliant in the past supplying me with bearings and seals.

Yep, found it. $348 plus $35 for postage plus GST brings it up to around the $420. To think that that bugger has a box of them. Happy days for him I suppose.
A lot cheaper then $1,500 for sure. I'm surprised some enterprising sole hasn't had these made in China even if it's just for the Jag market. The same could be said about some of the Ronny Type N main bearings. $800 each if you can find them :eek:

I got to my bearing bloke today. He can get them all.
He's getting a price for the 2 sets of Timken 366 - 363 and the other 4 bearings come in at $720. That's a lot better then $1,500 for one.
I have to give a plug to Pete at SURPLUS BEARINGS at Slacks Creek in Brisbane. I've dealt with him for over 20 years and he's never failed me.

Well done Scotty, a great saving for the Museum too.

This makes me ask the question if a new thread could be started for good suppliers of parts? I understand that they may not be Sponsors on this great site but they are local to us Down Under.
