Here are a few of the hammer prices not including buyers premiums etc:

Lot # Description Price
1410 Avery $35,000
1423 Sawyer Massey $37,000
1434 Sawyer Massey $84,000
2143 Case 75 HP $110,000
3107 Case scale model $7,500

Bargains are all in the buyers eyes and I'm sure they are all happy with their new engines.

The next question that begs to be asked is WHERE they are going & WHO had the excess funds to boost the prices to that level.

The price of the 75 Case: Is that right? Who would have bought it at that price?

I wonder how many people from Iowa or Mn made it to the auction? With the snowstorm shutting airports and interstates down since Thursday, it would have been tought to make it to Arizona unless you left early.

read a few results over on the Lugs side. a few seemd high but the 20-40 Case only brought 54k. the old reliable Hart Paar brought 90.
i just wanted to throw it out there our 75 is now for sale at a bargain of $95,000 to the second bidder at Yuma. we'll even throw in the extensions for that price and store it here as long as you want. Admission to the farm is free along with lunch:D

I feel a little better being cash poor but having a 75 Case I bought a couple of years ago.;)
Boy Tom, I'm glad you sold me the steering wheel & shaft for my 60 before the sale, if it could be used on a 75 HP also! :D No telling what those parts are worth now!!!!!!

I'd be real curious to know who bought the 75 (I'm betting it's going overseas) and who was bidding against them. I'm sure now everyone who is trying to sell their 75 is going to raise their price considerably......:(

I could undercut Colins price and be OK IF I wanted to sell my 75.

For that kind of price It would be a case of auction fever mixed with deep pockets and big egos. Maybe it will become a display at a casino somewhere.

At a price of $110,000. that is a 5232% appreciation over 1912 new price.

A new steering wheel was $5 and a shaft was $6. $11. multiplied by 5232% is $575.52. I was hoping you weren't thinking I had hijacked you the it was.

Since it has already been mentioned over in Lugs & Cleats, the Sawyer-Massey traction engine is coming to North Carolina as part of the Eder collection. Many of us old Southern boys will be interested in seeing and running an engine that is so highly thought of by our friends in the north country.

on the lugs and cleats side it mentions the Aultman Taylor steamer went for $13,000... why so much cheaper than the other steamers ?

Just a S.W.A.G. (scientific-wild-@$$-guess), but boiler condition MAYBE? I haven't heard a thing about any of the boilers on these engines...but I know that usually gets the price down, for "knowing" individuals.....

Don't anyone misconstrue what I'm saying and run off and say "Mike McKnight says that boiler is junk!" I'm not....I'm just making a guess as to why brand "X" didn't bring as much as brand "C.A.S.E." :bonk:

Or is it maybe eagles fly way higher than chickens? Or even higher than bulldogs? :p

Could be.

A buttstrap boiler is usually more attractive, and as a rule will attract a higher price than a lap seam.

Then you have the "engine du jour," which these days seem to be (in alphabetical order) Advance-Rumely, Avery, Baker, Case, and Reeves.

No insult intended or implied to those who worship at the throne of Advance, Frick, Gaar-Scott, Geiser, Huber, Kitten, Port Huron, Sawyer-Massey, etc. I like 'em all!

It has been a couple of days since I have been able to get on-line; but I asked a question on another thread (that has suspiciously disappeared???????? Ol' G maybe missed something? ). At any rate, I asked about prices of the steam items at this Yuma sale? Still not sure what all was there for steam, or what things brought? There are some prices on this thread and another; but not sure if they are mixing steam and gas prices together? Can anyone add just a list of steam items?
Thanks for the help,
G.
