Poulan Prow Chainsaw Ignition Problem

I know from reading other posts that Poulan is not too popular on here but I could please use a bit of help. I have a Poulan Pro PP4620AVHD chainsaw that was a friend's. What I thought was going to be a walk in the park turned out to be a walk thru hell. I determined that the ignition module (original p/n: 530039239) was bad. The original part number part was no longer available and all parts sites swore that part number 545063901 is/was the replacement. The replacement does not work and I think it is for a saw that has points maybe. This saw does not have points. I tested the coil with the wire to the kill switch disconnected to eliminate something shorted in it's wiring. This saw has a three magnet flywheel. Other markings on the saw are 405, Partner and Type 1. Thanks in advance for any help. I have enclosed a few pictures of the saw. Allie

The original module's resistance measurements are from the "kill" contact to core measured about 120 Ohms and the HV secondary was open. The supposed replacement measures from the "kill" contact to core about 1.2 Ohms and the HV secondary measures about 12,000 Ohms to core. Allie

Post a pic of the coil you removed,it may be i have a clunker saw the coil will work from.It will take me a day or 2 to find it .
Also check the flywheel key
Sometimes these jobs we take on for friends turn out to be the worse pains!

Here is a picture of the old coil. The Husqvarna 137 and 142 is supposed to use the same module. Allie

In doing some more searching I found Chainsawr listed a used ignition module under the old Poulan part number of 530039239. I thought it might be worth it to give it a try. Turns out the number on the used part I received had the replacement number of 545063901 so I am back at square one. The old PN was used in a Husqvarna 137 I believe. The friend said he got a new chainsaw a few months ago and said I could have it. Guess I may let the recyclers have it. I have been trying to find what would work for almost 18 months now...Allie

Try the part anyway, numbers get changed. What I had was nothing close so I didn't reply back with a pic,.
Put it under the house or on a shelf, another will show up with a bad bar or ran without oil and you can swap parts.

Uglyblue66 the used part I received was the same thing as the two new ones I have that don't work. The replacement number part I am pretty sure is for one with points or an electronic module to trigger it. I have tested other Poulan modules at the "kill" terminal and they measure around 200 Ohms on a good one. The replacement modules at the "kill" terminal measure about 1.5 Ohms like a plain ole points triggered coil. Allie

Sure that the ignition modules of (original according to parts list) 530039239 and the sub 545063901 are not right for this saw. Those are just coils. Started off in a different direction. Cleaned up the old module and what I thought was a patent number may be a part number. The coil on the saw is a Phelon and a number molded into the plastic is Re 31837. The name Phelon is also molded into the flywheel so I assume the saw has a Phelon ignition system? I hate anything that tries to get the best of me. Allie
