Re: RIDER ERICSSON 6" - brick - cuir piston gasket

Hello,
the pump packing has two 1/4 "threaded holes.
It is original?
In the hole I have to put a tube to recover water leaks?

Thank you
Davide
yes, the holes are for a drain tube in one and a plug in the other hole.
it is normal for the packing to leak a little.
if you tighten it enough to not leak, it creates too much drag on the engine.

Hi Mrv in Minn,
thanks for the information.

I have a new question, how should the pump packing gasket system be composed?
I have: pump + rubber washer + brass washer + rubber washer + brass stuffing box (with cone to house the packing).

It's correct?

I'm almost there, today for the first time I saw him move .... it's a show !!!!

:):)

I had a leak on the pump packing, but I've already solved it,
It's fantastic: a handful of wood, 10 minutes (but I would say even less) and the engine starts, fantastic!

Now just a nice outdoor video is missing, with the right light and perspective.

I was afraid of not succeeding with the power piston seal.
I was afraid of the friction due to the glands and the pump, but instead everything was perfect.
Without water the engine goes very fast ... too much .... it was a great purchase !!!

Re: RIDER ERICSSON 6" - brick - leather piston gasket

Hello,
I’m restoring an Ericsson engine with a 5 in. power piston and im looking for some information on the main leather seal. I think the seal I have is going to need replacing, and so I was wondering if I could get Don Worley’s email.
Thanks

I need to replace the gasket that is in between the top and bottom cylinder halves. What are y’all using to make this gasket?
Hi Cajun,
Are you talking about this?

I used graphite fiber gasket, gasket material for gas or steam engines.
Then I covered it with a light layer (red) of Motorsil Arexon (silicone caulk for high temperatures)
