I was not really planning on restoring my g this winter, but after scoring a piston, I decided to pull the motor off. After pulling the motor the decision was made that she should be cleaned up blasted and made pretty. Sleeve the jugs. Address radiator leaks and whatever else I find on the way. I am planning on this being a 2 year deal with other projects happening at the same time

I concur. Nothing beats a shop full of old iron. I'm assuming you're talking about the painted 20-40? What's the deal with the unrestored 20-40 and 16-30?

Yes the older re painted one. The other 2 are in for mechanical restorations. The jd 830 is almost done. Cleaned bores and went through the whole governor system. Some fool played with the rack setting and took beyond where is should be, caused flyweights to go stuck balls out. The 730 is getting close. ... Rebuilt pumps and injectors, that one is factory elec start. Also put one good fender on. Must have blown a tire with chloride and was pretty nasty.

The first tractor through was the 8210. Got a loader put on it after I traded my other one off. Came in handy too. My forklift was proving too light for the task of lifting off the motor. So we used the 8210 with 3 chain hoists. Better control with the chain hoists. It's a lot of up and down, climbing and looking around to pull level... but went good. Just takes time

Not to steal your thread Lukeste, but while I have the attention of the Rumely people on here. Has anyone had the spur gear housings get loose on the differential gear on any lightwieght Rumelys? All of mine are loose on my 15-25 L. I think the rivets need replaced.

Took the differential gear to our local machine shop and it seems the spur gear housings have worked loose and wore the holes out where they sit down in the center hub. They are going to repair them. I won't use up any more of your thread on here Luke.

Luke, those oilpulls should run cooler on gas than kerosene. I think there is an other issue there if it is actually over heating. Frequently the hub in the cooling pump impeller is worn loose on the shaft, most of them are just cast of aluminum and soon Quit driving when they come loose and of course you loose circulation. An other issue that crops up is often the pipes to the radiator are cut too short and over the years a lot of packing gets forced into the fittings and radiator spacing rings till it plugs them off. Of course pistons fit with out enough clearance will score. Just some more home work for you :wave:

Darn I missed the plowing on the g. But glad I wasn't plowing when piston scored.it looked like the ground was a little wet to plow. Looks like a busy winter for you

Should reword this to read, "Those Oilpulls can still operate on gasoline when the engine happens to be cooler. Operating on kerosene will not cause the engine to operate hotter." If some of the kerosene didn't burn, it could provide some slight lubrication.

Ive ran a 20-40 lots with straight regular gas and it run nice and clean. Only issue I have is I had to bypass the fuel line around the heater in the exhaust or the gas would boil coming into the mixer. I think unburned or partially burned kerosene would cause carbon. The impeller on my oilpull came loose years ago if I remember correctly it just had a pin through it. I put a bolt and locknut on and been good ever since.

We had an impeller come loose like that on an Heider C also and of course it caused overheating.

I got the motor off of the cribbed boards. I made a steel frame to set the motor on and set her down. the way the plumbing is on the bottom is simple but complicated to disconnect. there is a jam nut on the right jug that needs to be loosened, then you thread the cross pipe out to loosen from left jug elbow, and threads further into the right elbow, when threaded out enough then you can take off the left and right jug. uffda, a good flange mount would be a lot handier..

jugs are going off with pistons to get sleeved, pistons will be turned down to match the sleeves.

The jugs ar in the boring bars now. Each side will be sleeved. They will be dry press fit in. The pistons will be cleaned up in lathe and address ring lands at that time.
