With Memorial Day and the start of Summer 3 short months away, it is time to turn our attention to the 2017 ACMOC National Show returning to the birthplace of Best, Holt and Caterpillar in beautiful sunny (not so much since January 4 but hopefully in May) California. This will be the first return to California since the 2008 Best Show on Tracks which set the standard for all Antique Caterpillar Shows.

The 2017 Show will be on the stunningly beautiful Santa Margarita Ranch in San Luis Obispo County on the Central Coast of California. Many of you have ventured to our slice of heaven for the 2010, 2015 or 2016 Best of the West Antique Equipment Shows and know what I am speaking of. For those of you who have not been to San Luis Obispo County we are know for our expansive beaches and sunsets over the Pacific Ocean, highly acclaimed wine regions featuring over 400 wineries, Firestone Walker Brewing Company the most highly decorated mid-size brewery in America, Hearst Castle, the California Missions, agriculture, friendly people and a really great Show featuring "Planes, Trains, Tractors, Engines, Automobiles, Military Vehicles, Trucks, Horses and Mules" among other things. Here are a couple of links to previous discussions http://www.acmoc.org/bb/showthread.p...a-Margarita-Ca http://www.acmoc.org/bb/showthread.p...kend-Show-2016 This is not the California you read about and see on the news but rather is a slice of old California focused on community and agriculture.

The Website for the Show is https://bestofthewestshow.com/ The preliminary schedule of events has been posted to the website but subject to modification as Glen, Pete and our committee flush out lots to do and see at the Show.

In addition to the usual lineup of rare and unusual Holt, Best and Caterpillar tractors, graders, scrapers, implements etc., the 2017 Show will feature a really great lineup of the big prairie tractors and rare and unusual steel wheeled tractors including the ONLY Pontiac single cyl tractor that Anton has gotten running and driving, the ONLY Improved Johnson which is the earliest (that we are aware of) known orchard tractor and was later re-branded as the Rumely Toehold tractor, the ONLY Best 75 round Wheel Tractor surviving, the magnificent Don Hunter built Holt # 111 steam crawler, the earliest complete and operating Gas Traction Big Four 25, Aultman Taylor 30-60, Rumely 30-60 E, IH Type C 25 HP, Avery 25-50, Hart Parr 30-60, Rumely 15-30 F, several smaller early IH, Hart Parr, Rumely, a Sawyer Massey, Allwork, Heider and many other unusual tractors.

For the Cat feature, the Siamese D8 that Glen Ghilotti, Ed Akin and Peterson Cat built and the Peterson Cat Double D9's and lots of newly restored or barn fresh Cat, Holt and Best tractors--many never seen before at a show will be debuted. There will be the largest lineup of Holt and Best Tractors and the rare Cats that have been assembled since 2008. We are expanding the dirt pit as the toys have become more numerous and bigger than prior years. Glen will coordinate period specific demonstrations that will spotlight the equipment and the operators that have run this type of equipment for the last 70+ years. We will have a construction equipment parade each day together with the non-construction antiques parading at a different time each day. We will wrap up the third parade of each day with the military equipment, antique trucks and any antique cars that care to join in.

One of the things that set our show apart is that there is a 3600 foot paved runway on the ranch and this affords our pilots the opportunity to demonstrate their military planes each day. The original Disneyland train coaches will be riding the rails, the kids will be entertained in the Kids Corral play area, the multiple tanks and halftracks will be rumbling and the tractors will be in motion. We further understand that the all of the known (5) Daniel Best/Best Manufacturing 1 cyl gas engines will be running at the show.

Each day at noon we will shut everything down for a few minutes to honor our fallen heroes who lost their lives in defense of our Country protecting the freedoms we love. This is not a side note to the Show but rather a focus as we would not be able to have a Show like this if we were not so blessed to be protected by all of the brave men and women who have stepped up to answer freedom's call.

We will have more as we get closer to the show. We wanted to post this reminder so you can let special family members know that all you really want is to be able to come to Santa Margarita in May and enjoy the fellowship with like minded collectors from around the World. We hope to see lots of old friends and meet many more in May. Hopefully I will get the opportunity to put faces with names in May as many of you venture to California for the Show.

I imagine you are well cared for Chad, but you are welcome to stage/store anything at my place just a few miles from the Ranch.
I got a big forklift and lots of room.

We are now 3 short weeks away from the first day of the Best of the West Show in Santa Margarita. The show is shaping up to be an incredible display of West Coast goodness with loads coming in from TX, WY, UT, CO, AZ, NV, OR, WA and all over California. The tractors, particularly the Best and Holts, will be over the top. We have a huge line up of vintage Military equipment, military aircraft, antique trucks etc. Go to https://bestofthewestshow.com/ and take a look at the website.

We hope you can attend.

What a Fantastic show! Tom and the Pioneer Days group put on one heck of a show! While it was Caterpillars yearly show, it had many steel wheeled tractors and older rubber tired.
5 Rumelys, Pontiac, IHC, Avery, Altman-Taylor, and more plus the only known steel wheeled Holt! plus a great grouping of hit and miss.
Must I mention 2 Holt 120 running and one purpose built 120 engine, wow
For a 3 year old show this is one of the best (at least out west)
See you next year:)

I had a BIG time at the show! Love that fact that everything is out and running and playing. I was lucky enough to operate many, many tractors that I'd never had the opportunity to even be around. So many ultra rare tractors at one show - it was quite a sight! The gas engines were as rare and scarce as you'll ever see too. It was great to spend some quality time with so many quality collectors and men. It was all pretty awesome! Thanks to Tom Madden for the invite, all of the work to put the show on and the confidence to turn an ol' southern Illinois boy loose on anything he wanted to get on and drive! Fabulous over the top show!
