Steam auction in Woodland, WA

Was wondering if anyone had information on the steam engines for sale in Woodland WA on Aug 24-25. They have a Russel(larger size - seems to have unusally large front wheels), small Garr Scott, Huber, stationary engines, Porter Locomotive. Marion Steam shovel(shows a Case engine in the background) Looks like a lot of good stuff. Nixon autioneer is the seller

Money will probably be no object at this one:crazy:

Re: Steam auction in Woodland, WA

This is Clyde Schurman with the same Russell steam engine. I have it listed as a road locomotive, but it has another correct name my old mind can't come up with at this moment. I know the bull gears are very large and have internal teeth, with the pinion running inside the gear ring. I always wondered how they'd be in "gravely" country.

That will likely be a big $ale.

Thanks Gary

What would be the HP rating of the engine and the cylinder dimensions

Tomorrow, we are having a "Memorial Steam Up" at Clyde's ranch in his memory. Clyde is Alan Schurman's Uncle.

We will steam up the engines--gas up the tractors and engines for one last FUN DAY. Clyde would be proud of us.

It is going to be a great day in Clyde's memory.

KG1584,
I got this photo from the late Austin Monk... I don't remember whether it was rated at 25 or 30hp, but I'm thinking 25. I DO NOT know the cylinder dimmensions.
Sorry,
Gary;)

Re: Steam auction in Woodland, WA

This Russell is a "General Utility", not a road locomotive. It is the only one extant, to my knowledge, making it a VERY scarce engine!

The sale bill is somewhat confusing; how many Gaar-Scott engines are there? 1 or 2? If ya'll are having a steam up there, could someone PLEASE get me the G/S serial number(s?)?

Thanks,
Mike

I don't know how many are there. You would have see His collection to understand this.

I will make a note to get the #s for you.

Don't try to judge the HP by the size of Clyde and the wheel height. Clyde was only about 5'-2" tall.

I miss him.

Jim,
Even if Clyde were only 4' tall, those wheels aren't your standard Russell Wheels. You can see it with your eye in the scale of things.

One more.

Harry, Why can the registered users post 4 photos and the subscribers can only post 2 on a post ????? (side view of the Porter Switch Engine)

Jim

Edit: Because they know how.

There is only one Garr Scott at the auction. 13 HP. Photos attached.

Jim,
Thanks! Not too far from my 13 HP; mine is SN 15,818. Looks like a nice little engine, and can tell you whoever buys it should NOT be disappointed! The 13's are a fun-to-run little engine. :D

That G-S is in great shape. They ran it around all day.

It was very well cared for as was all of Clyde's stuff.

Jim,
I only wish I knew whan that picture was taken. It was black & white in the original, but I can't remember if the original picture had one of those early scalloped sides and a date listed? I'd say it was a late 1950s -60s vintage, but who knows?

I see it's been discussed on some of the other boards on some of the other items, but what did the steamers bring? Esp. the little 13 HP Gaar-Scott and the big Russell?

Thanks,
Mike
