Used Aluminum CO2 cartridge?

I found this little cartridge in the dirt floor of my hay barn. I wanted to see if this way an old used aluminum CO2 cartridge? It is like 2 1/8" x 1/2" x 1". Made in U.S.A. embossed on the bottom. If it is, what would it have been used for? Thank you for your assistance.

I think your right it does look like an old oiler bottlers for military rifles. Thank you for identifying this.

CO2 has way to much pressure to be stored in anything but round cylinders, at least the way it is sold now.

My mother's 'Domestic' sewing machine has one of those oil cans. I have it (the sewing machine and the oil can) now...
