Walnut shell blasting my engine to repaint?

I have a Briggs and Stratton ZZP I rebuilt and plan to eventually repaint. The thing is rusty. I was originally thinking of wire wheeling the whole thing but I have a blast pot so I figured blasting would make it cleaner and be more efficient. I’ve never used walnut shells, but I’d figure that would be the safest way to go since sand or steel shot would be destructive if it made its way into the engine. Would walnut shell blasting be good or am I better off just wire wheeling?
