Waukesha ICK engine oil filter

Greetings all
Working on finishing up my Waukesha ICK powered railroad motorcar...
The motor that came with the car was in non-operable (but repairable) condition but I have another ICK, from another motorcar
that i'll be using. The one that WAS in the car has a by-pass oil filter canister, installed at the factory. It draws oil from the 1/8"
"oil pressure" port under the manifold, routes it to the oil pressure gauge, to the filter and then back to a
port on the opposite side up near the c/s pulley (opposite side). The replacement engine has no port in that location..
The question is, can the oil be returned to the blockoff cover where the fuel pump would go (no fuel pump/gravity fed).?
