Wico EK Leadout- Left or Right?

I just picked up a Hecules 1 1/2 hp that has the bracket and linkage for a Wico EK, but is missing the magneto. As I've looked at photos and videos of engines of this type, most of them seem to have the leadout tower on the right side of the magneto for this application.

When I look at photos of Wico EK magnetos during the rebuilding process, it appears that the coils have provisions for mounting the leadout tower on either side. Can a Wico EK with the tower on the left, be easily converted to the right? If that's the case, it makes my search for a magneto much easier.

A couple of things you must do when you remove the EK cover - 1) There is a brass or copper strip riveted to the covver. This is the coil ground. Make sure it is clean, free of corrosion, and that it makes good contact with the output button on the coil. 2) Be sure the lead out tower spring sets squarely on the output buttton on the coil. if the spring is cocked, it will either turn the coil or rip the output button off the coil assembly. NOT GOOD! NOTE: There are 2 output buttons on the EK coil package, one on each side of the mag. There is also a thin crossovver wire between the coiols, that slip over a pin on each coil (there are actually 2 coils). The crossover must be in place for the coil wo work.

Okay, if I'm understanding correctly, one of the coil buttons will be grounded by contact to the cover. The button on the other coil will be the output, and is insulated from the cover by the leadout tower.

I was thinking that I had to find a hot magneto with the output on the right. Now, I'm almost hoping to find a rebuildable core with the output on the left, just so I'll have an excuse to open it up. I've been rebuilding Model T Ford coils for years, so I'm not afraid of learning about ancient ignition technology. I even built a Gingery magnet charger to recharge the magnets for the Ford magneto.

The EK is designed to be able to provide spark from either side of the coil assemblies. one side is grounded, the other isolated and feeds the plug. Spark travels between the 2 buttons, via the connections. The mag does not care which side is grounded, so long as the circuit is completed
