Will a Hydraulic Cylinder Make a Good Cylinder?

I am in the process of building a larger hit -n-miss engine, with a 1-1/2" bore. Can fellow hobbyists share their knowledge and experience on using a hydraulic cylinder as a sleeve? My concern is whether the cast iron piston rings will seat, after honing the cylinder.

Re: Will a hydraulic cylinder make a good cylinder?

I have built a couple of model engines using hydraulic cylinder material for engine sleeve. Works for me.

Hydralic cylinder should have a good enough finish not to need honing, you could also run Vitron rings which would run well on the smooth bore, last couple of engines I have made I used Vitron rather than iron rings.

Thank you for your help - I am going to use the hydraulic cylinder in my build. Will be posting flywheel pic soon, they are 12" diameter, based on electric generating type, they weigh 23# each.
