Description: Located Barnet, VT on the Stevens River, exit 18 off I-91 2.5 miles west is Ben Thresher s Mill. The mill dates to 1872 and includes a woodworking shop that first specialized in wagon wheels and bodies, then in stone boats and other working sleds, and finally truck bodies and water tubs for cows. An adjacent blacksmith's forge allowed relevant metal work. A third section of the structure houses a hydraulic apple cider press. All the woodworking machinery is in working order, and it is belt-driven from a shafting arrangement in the cellar of the mill. The mill is open from Memorial Day weekend until Columbus Day, Sat. and Sun., 11 AM - 3 PM.
For tours, please call Hiram Allen at (802) 748-8180.
